Wildlife Emergency Services

32 Shirala is the only administrative block of Sangli district which lies on the edge of the Western Ghats. The block has maximum forest cover in entire district and is blessed with protected area like Chandoli National Park and Sahyadri Tiger Reserve. The geography of block is composed of Ghat-Konkani landscape towards western side and scrublands and grasslands towards eastern side. The block has Warna river originating from the Chandoli National Park and provides water to agriculture areas in the  entire block. Farming communities practice cultivation of rice, sugarcane, wheat, jowar, soya, groundnuts etc. Composition of various types of ecosystems makes 32 Shirala rich in the diversity of wildlife species, living in forests, scrublands, grasslands as well as in agriculture fields close to human settlements. Since the wildlife and communities in this block share the same landscape, cases of human-wildlife conflict arise.  The role of rescue operations comes into play. We as a conservation organization, along with the local forest department, provide service in this block to mitigate the human- wildlife conflicts through Wildlife Emergency Services.
